Ellen Oléria deepens encounters, affections, and ancestry in Canto de Casa Vol. 2.

This is the second part of the double album celebrating the artist's twenty-five-year career. Recorded in São Paulo in 2025, Canto de Casa Vol. 2 expands the sonic territory inaugurated in the first volume and reaffirms Ellen Oléria's proposal: to celebrate music as a space of communion, identity, memory, and resistance.

If in the first album affection guides the experience, here it also transforms into rootedness. The repertoire incorporates more strongly the rhythmic color of Brazil, as in "Noite Macia" (Piseiro, Tecnobrega) and "Ê Fuzuê" (MPB, Jongo), revealing dialogues between tradition and contemporaneity.

Volume 2 of the Canto de Casa project brings connections to Black and Indigenous ancestry, present in tracks such as "Iyabás" and "Abya Yala (A Memória do Fogo)," reaffirming Ellen's artistic and political commitment to collective memory and the narratives that sustain plural identities in a decolonial movement.

The album also features special guest appearances by Zélia Duncan, Ceumar, and Juliana Linhares, who join the project with affection and creative freedom.

Canto de Casa Vol. 2 reaffirms music as a territory of encounter. A symbolic terreiro where voices, memories, and the rhythmic diversity of Brazil intertwine.

About Ellen Oléria

Ellen Oléria is a Brazilian singer and songwriter with twenty-five years of dedication to music—a journey crowned with festival awards and five albums that carry the strength of many encounters. From north to south of Brazil and across stages in Spain, France, Angola, the United States, England, Russia, Japan, and Taiwan, Ellen takes her "canto de casa" (song of home) to the world.

Born in Brasília on November 12, 1982, and raised in Chaparral, a region of Taguatinga, her music is a powerful and vibrant fusion of MPB, samba, soul, funk, bossa nova, and hip hop—a reflection of her rich cultural heritage and multifaceted identity. She describes her work as singing "the universe of a black woman, lesbian, raised in Chaparral," a statement that captures the depth, complexity, and authenticity of her artistry.

A dramatic soprano with a scintillating timbre and a deeply Brazilian repertoire, Ellen condenses in each performance what the people recognize as their own: enthusiasm, groove, the flame that sets the dance floor on fire, and a smile that never leaves her face.

Her versatility extends to activism: she hosted Estação Plural, a TV Brasil talk show dedicated to behavioral topics and the LGBT universe, opening gates—as her mother once did for neighbors—so that more people could join the conversation.

Her career, which began in the late 1990s, has seen her share stages with Brazilian music legends including Milton Nascimento, Margareth Menezes, Ney Matogrosso, Paulinho Moska, and Chico César. In 2012, she achieved national acclaim as the winner of the first season of The Voice Brasil, a victory that brought her music to millions while affirming her commitment to artistic integrity over commercial conformity. Since that milestone, Ellen has released critically acclaimed albums including her self-titled 2013 debut and the groundbreaking Afrofuturista (2016).

The Connection: A Diasporic Chain of Custody

The path that led Ellen Oléria to Tropical Diaspora Records is a testament to the interconnected web of the African diaspora and the importance of community-based artistic stewardship. The connection was forged through drummer Leo Carvalho, whose own musical journey is interwoven with our label's history.

Leo Carvalho, a Brazilian drummer whose work spans numerous projects, is a key figure in the Tropical Diaspora Records family. His powerful percussion is featured on our previous releases, including Renato Gama's Olhos Negros Vivo and Berlin. Through his collaborations, Leo serves as a vital bridge, connecting artists and amplifying the sounds of the diaspora across continents.

It is through these relationships—built on trust, shared values, and a commitment to sonic liberation—that Ellen's music finds its home with us. Her arrival at Tropical Diaspora Records is not a transaction but an organic meeting of kindred spirits, united by a shared vision of cultural preservation and innovation.

Canto de Casa - Volume 2: A Homecoming in Song

Canto de Casa (Song of Home) is the expression of Ellen's gratitude to all the people who have united with her through music over twenty-five years. Born of partnerships and friendships, the album celebrates their crossings and exchanges—so immense that they ask for a little more of it all. In the bond of sharing in love, this is Ellen's song of home.

As Ellen herself describes:

"When I was a child, I often saw our house fill with people on weekends. My father would pick up his accordion, and his playing was the invitation for neighbors to gather and appreciate the music. My mother always left the gate open. People would arrive, received with a small cup of sweet coffee.

*Music continued to be a place of confluence for me. And even now, completing twenty-five years of dedication to music, it remains a meeting point. The album 'Canto de Casa Vol. 1' is the expression of my gratitude to all the people who have united with me through it.*

The album was recorded at Estúdio Gargolândia in Alambari, São Paulo, and is a masterful blend of samba, funk, soul, and Afro-Brazilian rhythms, all held together by Ellen's commanding and soulful voice. It features a remarkable ensemble of musicians co-produced with Felipe Viegas, Pedro Miranda, and Renato Galv Santos.
