A Bridge Between Eras: Dub Manual Revitalizes a Samba-Rock Holy Grail
BERLIN / SÃO PAULO – Tropical Diaspora Records is proud to present a vital new chapter in the story of one of Brazil's most legendary records: "Grilos Da Vida (Nego Vem Sambá)" by Banda Jardes. Respected producer Dub Manual delivers a masterful edit that honors the original's raw samba-rock soul while reframing its timeless groove for the contemporary dance floor.
The original "Grilos Da Vida," penned by the late, great Reginaldo Laurindo da Silva (Régis) in 1976, is more than a song; it's a piece of São Paulo's cultural fabric. Emerging from the city's Black peripheries, it became an anthem of the samba-rock movement—a fiery blend of funk, soul, and Brazilian rhythm. Its rarity and the myth of its bootleg copies being dumped into the Tietê River have only amplified its legendary status.
The story of its preservation is deeply personal. Label founder DJ Garrincha met Régis in the 90s, long before founding the label. In 2015, he was entrusted with Régis's only copy of the vinyl with a mission: to bring this crucial music to the world. This reissue project began a renaissance for the track, a joy Régis witnessed before his passing in 2022.
Now, Dub Manual picks up the torch. His edit respectfully teases out the track's hypnotic guitar licks and powerhouse percussion, stretching the groove into a deep, DJ-friendly tool. It amplifies the original's funk and pays homage to Régis's vision, ensuring that the irrepressible call of "Nego vem sambá!" continues to resonate from underground clubs to open-air festivals, connecting generations of music lovers.
This release is not just a rework; it's a tribute, a continuation, and a testament to the undying spirit of samba-rock.
