Conceived, composed, performed, and produced entirely by Max himself, Samba Raro is a masterful fusion of vintage Brazilian soul and cutting-edge electronic production. Drawing deep inspiration from the golden era of Black Rio, the sophisticated harmonies of Jorge Ben, and the rhythmic innovations of Baden Powell, Max reimagines these classic sounds through the lens of Hip Hop, Drum'n'Bass, and creative looping. The result is music that felt radically forward-thinking in 1999 and remains astonishingly fresh today.

Each track pays tribute to a different pillar of Brazilian music history. The title track honors Jorge Ben, while "Afrosamba" channels the spirit of Baden Powell's classic "Canto de Ossanha." "Pra Você Lembrar" evokes the melancholic romance of Chico Buarque, and "Onda Diferente" glides with the graceful energy of the legendary Banda Black Rio. The album also features "Rapadura," a vibrant collaboration with São Paulo's Camorra, and closes with "Você e Eu," an implicit homage to the timeless songwriting of Roberto and Erasmo Carlos.
