"Grilos Da Vida" Edit by Jazz Fuzz [Digital]

A lost samba‑rock anthem from the peripheries of São Paulo has found a new voice in the Windy City. Jazz Fuzz, the Chicago based duo known for their deep blend of jazz, soul, and electronic groove, has released the first official remix of Banda Jardes’ legendary 1976 track “Grilos Da Vida (Nego Vem Sambá)” on Tropical Diaspora Records.

The original recording is the stuff of Brazilian vinyl lore. Only one known copy survived after thousands of illegal pressings were allegedly dumped into São Paulo’s Tietê River. That sole surviving vinyl was entrusted to Tropical Diaspora Records by the late composer Regis Moreno himself, under a solemn promise to reissue his music with integrity. Regis passed away in 2022. Co‑composer Isaias (Saiazi) has also since passed.

Jazz Fuzz’s edit transforms the original’s sun‑drenched brass and funk guitar into a hypnotic, late‑night journey. Walking basslines, subtle electronic textures, and a cool, unhurried pulse create a transatlantic conversation between São Paulo’s samba‑rock heat and Chicago’s sophisticated soul. The result is timeless, danceable, and deeply respectful of the source material.

The remix is digital only. It follows the label’s deliberate policy: two exclusive vinyl editions (Bugiganga Tropical Vol. 1 and Cities of Diaspora Vol. 1) remain the only physical pressings of “Grilos Da Vida”. All edits, including this one and the Dub Manual Edit, are reserved for streaming and download.

Tropical Diaspora Records also warns that unauthorized labels in São Paulo have attempted to illegitimately claim rights to this music. Legal protections are in place. This Jazz Fuzz edit is the only official Chicago remix of “Grilos Da Vida”.
