Dub Manual Revives a Samba‑Rock Ghost: Official Edit of Banda Jardes’ “Grilos Da Vida” Out Now on Tropical Diaspora Records

The legendary samba‑rock anthem “Grilos Da Vida (Nego Vem Sambá)” by Banda Jardes has haunted Brazilian vinyl collectors for nearly five decades. Only one known copy of the original 1976 record survived after thousands of illegal pressings were allegedly dumped into São Paulo’s Tietê River. That single surviving vinyl was entrusted to Tropical Diaspora Records by the late composer Regis Moreno himself, under a solemn promise: to reissue the music with absolute respect.

Today, the label releases the first official edit of that hallowed recording. Dub Manual, the project of musician Sanzyo Rafael from Olinda, Pernambuco, transforms the original into a deep, DJ‑friendly tool. Stretching the track’s hypnotic guitar lines and powerhouse percussion, Dub Manual channels Jamaican dub through the rhythmic soul of Northeast Brazil. The result is an immersive, echo‑drenched version that honors Regis Moreno’s vision while carrying samba‑rock onto modern dance floors.

The original “Grilos Da Vida” was born in the poor Black peripheries of São Paulo. Banda Jardes – Regis Moreno (guitar, vocals), Isaias (Saiazi) on bass, Gerson on keyboards, and Reinaldo on drums – created a sound that filled concert halls throughout the 1980s. Regis passed away in 2022. Co‑composer Isaias (Saiazi) has also since passed. Their families and DJ Garrincha, Regis’s lifelong friend and rights holder, have authorized every step of this release.

The Dub Manual Edit is digital only. It follows the label’s deliberate policy: two exclusive vinyl editions (Bugiganga Tropical Vol. 1 and Cities of Diaspora Vol. 1) remain the only physical pressings of “Grilos Da Vida”. All edits, including this one and the forthcoming Jazz Fuzz remix, are reserved for streaming and download.

Tropical Diaspora Records also warns that unauthorized labels in São Paulo have attempted to illegitimately claim rights to this music. Legal protections are in place. This edit is the only official dub version of “Grilos Da Vida”.
