GROUP ★BATUQUE AFOJUBÁ BERLIN
João de Alencar the founder of the Maracatu Group Batuque Afojubá Berlin is born 1985 in Recife Pernambuco – Brazil. Now days he lives and works in Berlin as freelancer musician and as percussionist with many artists from around the world. He is self-taught and work since 14 years as a professional musician. He specialized particularly in traditional rhythms from Northeast Brazil. He studied with all the great teachers of Coco in all different types of Coco, plays all the percussion instruments in improvisation dance theater Cavalo Marinho, in forró he is known for his zabumba, in frevo for his Caxia (snare), in Maracatú his group are distinguished by particularly modern and innovative rhythms.

GROUP ★BAQUE FORTE BERLIN
The group Baque Forte Berlin was founded officially in the summer of 2006 after several workshops that the percussionist Fabiano Lima had performed in Berlin. The interest of a few friends who were impressed by the energy and magic of the drums of Maracatu Nação, was the reason for the consolidation of the group. The primary influence on the rhythms of Baque Forte Berlin are the major Maracatus of Baque Virado or Nação such as: Encanto da Alegria, Estrela Brilhante, Estrela Brilhante de Igarassu, Leão Coroado, Porto Rico… But other rhythms from the Northeast of Brazil as the Coco, the Ciranda, Afoxé, rhythms of the Candomblé and also modern rhythms are part of the repertoire.

GROUP ★MARACATU-TREFFEN
The Maracatu meeting was designed specifically for people who were interested in the percussion of Maracatu de Baque Virado interested to know the music, to understand and above all to play! The percussionist Neide Alves from Recife (Brazil) organized this meeting at each third Saturday of the month in Kreuzberg: Groove – Centre for Percussion. Basically, there is a procession with one part with drummer and musician and other part with Dancers. In Germany and the Maracatu Treffen is the music always in the foreground.

GROUP ★MARAFOXE NAÇÃO NAGÔ
Initially the project Marafoxé was dedicated to the children of the favela. It prevented many of them from slipping into crime by an alternative leisure activities offered to them. Over the time, the group began to grow, gained professionalism and with performances to the public. The group began with their resent already extensive repertoire to travel to other countries to convey their music. For 6 years the group Marafoxé exists also in Berlin. A composition of music enthusiasts meets weekly to drum together. Juninho Quebradera as “Maracatu Master” conveys its energy and sound knowledge to provide the best Maracatu experience to all people.

BAND ★NOVO SAMBA BERLIN★
For the first time in the Tropical Diaspora the Group Novo Samba Berlin is a group which can play all kind of Samba even the ones the most people don´t know in Europe like Pagode, Samba de Raiz, Samba de Enrredo Batucada or Samba-Reggae. The Band was founded the year 2014 by professional musicians from South America that have a extensive experience in the musical cultural area. The Band and their components offers concert, gigs, shows, entertainment with Samba dancers and acrobatics in Capoeira or music dance workshops. For the Maracatu Night presented by Tropical Diaspora the band will finalize the Maracatu Performance with the Forró Band Maragandá to complete this great night of the Brazilian culture in the YAAM.

BAND ★FORRÓ MARAGANDÁ★
The Brazilian Latin rhythms are known world wide, we experience in the last years a explosion popularity in Europe of one specific rhythm, also the Forró. Berlin as the unofficial diaspora capital in Germany couldn’t stay out in this development and bring out for sure one of the most powerful forró band in Europe. With a strong traditional forró repertoire rhythms like xote, baião and arrasta-pé. The basic formation of the band with Philipe Alves playing Accordion, João Afojubá with Percussions, Fabiano Lima with the Zabumba and Mariano Habib with the Triangle is enough to bring the floor to dance together all night long and beyond bring people from all districts in the city to the place where they play. In the last two tropical diaspora events the band had a guest from Pernambuco – Brazil playing Rabeca the violin instrument adapted to the forró, his name is Hans Santos and live in Germany for a while this year and will be in the next event for the last time this year, also don´t miss the 28.08.15 inna YAAM Berlin. The last event in the whole original formation featuring Hans Santos with the Rabeca was the highlight in this year for me as Tropical Diaspora and for our guest that couldn’t imagine what a wonderful night they would experience.
