Artist: Transilvanians
Record: Two Fireworks in Hi-Fi

Transilvanians, the 7-piece band from Vigo, the city at the world’s end (as the legend says about the Romans who feared the Atlantic devouring the sun everyday at nightfall), has a new 7-inch out “Two Fireworks in Hi-Fi”: thanks to their collaboration with the Berlin-based Tropical Diaspora Records.

This is the fourth 7-inch of their career, a fifth one will come out soon!, in addition to two full-length albums. We already talked about their second full-length, “Echo, Vibes & Fire”, in our Vinyl of the Week Vol.8. Not bad for a 12 years musical career that, we hope, will last much much longer.

This is a high quality R&B Jamaican style record, a truly high-fidelity ‘firework’, classy and fine-tuned performed by a band that knows exactly how to achieve the kind of contemporary black sound they are chasing after.

The record includes two killers versions in R&B Jamaican style of Clarence Henry and Laurel Aitken.

The A-side includes a version of the acclaimed “Boogie In My Bones” by the great Laurel Aitken, a 1960 number one Jamaican hit. It is somehow representative of Aitken’s transition from mento and ’50s American R&B to ska. Transilvanians have created a stylish genuine boogie-woogie dancefloor hit that keeps on Aitken’s early RnB style, now embellished with the smoothy vocals of Javier Marcos masterly accompanied by the steady sound of Vieitez’s boogie piano.

The B-side is a version of “Ain’t Got No Home”, the debut hit of the New Orleans-born RnB singer and pianist Clarence “Frogman” Henry. Transilvanias slows down Frogman’s frenetic beat producing an elegant Jamaican style highly danceable ska version, this time with the brass and the solo guitar taking the leading part.

But it isn’t everything about music. Don’t miss the album’s cover. Transilvanians have again put their trust in Roberto Argüelles for the cover’s design. Roberto never lets you down. Playing with Transilvanians’ well-known love of horror B movies and sci-fi trash he has created a Transivanians’ version of Stevenson’s treasure island, this time with two vampire-like pirates getting their much sought-after shiny reward while in the background a smoking volcano is about to play its part in this musical firecracker.

Let yourself be transformed into a music-sucking bat, and this 7-inch will be your reward!
