Tropical Diaspora® Records is an independent music label based in Berlin whose focus is the Diaspora of Africa and or Native cultures into the Americas. At Tropical Diaspora® we create a back and forth connectivity that is reflected in the artists we release and represent. Our artists come all from every corner of the Atlantic. They spread and reflect on which has come to be the main currency of the label: the idea of music as lived shared experience.

Djs GArRinchA and Dr.Sócrates are committed to create a narrative in the turntables for the dancefloor, musical and otherwise, playing strictly vinyl sets with music about the people that crossed the Atlantic from Africa to the “Americas” and gave rise to different cultural expressions that reflect both the horror and hope of that experience. Those new and different cultural expressions like “funk, soul, cumbia, forró, samba, chicha or carimbó” are part of our musical curation concept that get the listeners not only to dance but transport them to a deep reflection about the origins of those songs.

Tropical Diaspora® Compilation Vol.1

We will officially release our new LP on vinyl called Tropical Diaspora #1 in the ILM Paris!

We are very happy to be able to announce our first compilation on vinyl coming out this autumn. The Volume 1 of our compilation will introduce many independent bands and artists in the vinyl world with unprecedented political messages and for sure great songs for dance people and beyond.

Tropical Diaspora #1 remembers. The compilation revisits this chapter of human cruelty, the horrible history of slave trade. But it isn’t just another piece of memory, a site for sorrow. The record transforms the Tree of Forgetfulness into a powerful network of remembrances. It gives voice to the daughters and sons of the slave trade. It is testimony of how African slaves kept their cultures and history alive giving birth to one of the most amazing cultural experiments of humankind.

The record is not only inspired but is dedicated to all the ancestors  of the modern great Afro Diaspora that kept their cultures alive.

Tropical Diaspora® Records new Projects on vinyl

Renato Grama with the Olhos Negros Trio live show recorded in Berlin, Madrid and Barcelona will be released on vinyl soon with acoustic and live songs with an amazing fusion of  Samba, Soul, Jazz and Funk. We are proud to have very special participation with artists from Salvador da Bahia in Brazil and Guiné-Bissau in Africa.

Based in Vila Nhocuné, a popular neighbourhood in the east of São Paulo’s periphery, “zona leste”, Renato Gama beautifully personifies the pulse against prejudice and social injustice that comes from the margins of Brazilian society and what social elites have chosen to ignore. A voice to be heard, for sure!
